Front: What Does it Take to Get to
Heaven?
Inside: It is a simple enough question
that everyone wants to know the answer to. However, you can ask ten
different people and get ten different answers to it. Some people
will tell you that you have to be as good as you can, obey the ten
commandments, join a certain church, or be baptized. Or they may say
that you have to be sincere and work as hard as you can. So how do we
know what it takes? We go to the source, we go to God’s word to find
the answer.
The Bible tells us that we are all
sinners (Romans 3:23, Ecclesiastes 7:20). If you don’t realize that
you are a sinner you cannot go to Heaven. You may ask, why would this
be true? Because only sinners need to have their sins paid for. If
you don’t know that you are a sinner you will never ask for the
forgiveness of your sins. If you have ever told a little white lie or
taken something that doesn’t belong to you, it makes you a sinner.
Our sin separate us from God (Isaiah 59:2). We can never be good
enough to get to Heaven because no amount of good works can make up
for the sin in our life (Titus 3:5). If we pay for our own sin, we
will spend eternity in Hell (Matthew 25:41, Revelation 14:11) In
light of these facts, things don’t look very good for us. But God
didn’t want for anyone to die and go to Hell. So how did God take
care of this problem? He could not leave such an important task to
anyone else to do so He put on human flesh in the form of Jesus
Christ (John chapter 1) and lived a perfect, sinless life. Because he
had no sin of His own, He was able to take our sins upon Himself. He
died on the cross of Calvary to pay for our sins (2 Corinthians
5:21). Jesus Christ is the only way for anyone to go to Heaven (John
14:6).
The Bible tells us that if we will
accept the payment that Jesus made for us on the cross for our sins
and accept Him as our Saviour He will give us everlasting life (John
3:16-18, Ephesians 2:8,9). If we decide to try to make it to Heaven
our own way we will spend eternity in Hell (John 3:36). Pride may
enter into the picture and we may think that we can get to Heaven on
our own merits, but the Bible tells us that our best is as filthy
rags in God’s sight (Isaiah 64:6). Please accept Jesus Christ as your
saviour. God has done the hard part and paid for your sins. God gives
us the choice to decide if we will accept His way to Heaven or try to
make our own way. The Bible however is clear that God’s way is the
only way (Proverbs 16:25). You need to accept this payment to have it
applied to your life. Over 150,000 people will die today. How many of
them will die without Christ? Don’t be one of them.
“For what shall it profit a man, if
he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?”

8:36)

Dear God, I know I am a sinner, and
that there is noway that I can get myself into Heaven. I know that
Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and I am accepting the payment
that He made for me. Please forgive me of my sins and allow me to
live with you in Heaven someday. God, I think you for forgiving me of
my sins. Please help me to serve you in my daily life. In Jesus name
I pray, Amen.
